Successful ITU site-visit
21 March 2010
Between 16-18 March the Series Management Team of the Dextro Energy Triathlon – ITU World Championship Series visited Budapest, the home of the Grand Final in 2010. The members of the Local Organising Committee prepared the three day visit with a busy schedule including a progress report from the local team. The team had the chance to visit the venues and the proposed field of play.
Some of the outcomes include:
- The course was approved, which includes the most iconic areas of Budapest, such as the Chain Bridge, the Houses of Parliament and Buda Castle.
- The schedule of the event was also approved with some very small details to finalize and as the outcome of this, the paratriathlon, the Sprint AG, the elite men and the U23 races will be on Saturday. The Olympic distance AG, the elite women and the junior competitions will be on Sunday. The schedule was determined to be able to provide the most effective live TV coverage for major broadcasters.
- The details of the TV production were also on the agenda, but the host broadcaster is still to be appointed.
- There were lengthy detailed discussions on all technical details; athletes services; branding and sponsorship and venue operations.
Quotes:
„I am very confident with the level of preparations. What I have seen during this short visit that most of the work is ahead of schedule. We had the chance to be in Budapest last year for the occasion of the Duathlon European Championships and we will see big improvements compared to that. We have been working closely with the local team to ensure the quality of the event.” – said Jorge Garcia, the co-Technical Delegate of the event.
„Impressive scenery! – a short statement came from Carsten Richter, the Senior Director of TV Rights for the series. Budapest will provide the perfect background for such an important event. The „iconic city background” pillar of the general concept of the series will be fulfilled in the Hungarian capital.”
„We are all very enthusiastic about the event coming up in September in order to provide a great experience for the entire triathlon family. The event progresses very well and this latest visit from ITU and Upsolut will move the preparation to the right direction to have a real celebration of triathon in September in 2010.” - commented Roland Manyai, the Executive Director of the LOC.
